I received this knife as well as the CRKT M16-14SFG in the Amazon retailer "PoorFish Outdoors."
Through initial inspection, both knives is very much of a good quality, however I've reason to suspect that both knives are certainly not genuine CRKT knive, but alternatively well-made knock-offs.

The 3 reasons for my suspicion are listed below:
1) A warning on the CRKT website that knocks offs with their knives can be found on the market
2) Comparing the knives I received to your friend's knife that they ordered and received straight from CRKT and another I received from another retailer, there seemed to be an improvement in debt paint for the thumb-nock.
3) The knives are create for switching between tip-up and (standard) tip-down carry, neither had replacement screws or clip. Both genuine model ordered from CRKT, along with another CRKT M16-13SF i always ordered from Blade Shop, was included with these replacements.

Overall, I gave these knives a 3 rating because I haven't found anything wrong together quality-wise, and also the price was good. However you should be aware that you have a pretty good possibility the product is not genuine CRKT if that is very important to you. Aside from the differences described above, there isn't any other visual clues how the knives aren't genuine, however I cannot attest for that form of blade material used, aside from to convey the 1st factory edge around the knives was sufficiently sharp.
