Gerber 05500 MP400 Compact Sport Multi-function Tool for sale
The Gerber MP400 is a superb tool... and it's really this... an instrument! It's small/compact which you may take everywhere. It is great for occasional use as well as moderate everyday use. If you're looking for something for heavy use, have a regular tool box. To get a multi-tool from the $20-$30 range it's economical and offers the job done.

Pro's - it's one hand opening on the pliers is good plus the locking feature for those other tools is essential have, particularly the blade. Check your grip design permits you to grip down hard without hurting your hand unlike some of the other flip multi-tools such as Leatherman's.

Con's - the tool can be a extra sturdy. They have some flex in the design particularly when turning a strong screw. The information accustomed to manufacture the tool is soft. The pliers are manufactured with such precision that you need to oil it occasionally. Thank heavens for WD-40!

Option - the included Gerber sheath is often a belt-loop design. I suggest one from Ripoffs (Model CO-12 or CO-13). Its clip-on design allows you to have on / off your belt (without pulling down your pants).

Conclusion - if you need a tool considering the features to acquire through every day, you won't be disappointed with the MP400. If you want the Rolls-Royce of multi-tools, this is not it. This can be a Chevy pickup using the rust spots still driving outside.

Update (12/2011): Since my original review, my MP400 has been through multiple USARs around the world, including lately Hurricane Irene as well as the earthquake in Christchurch (NZ). Will still be supporting enjoy it was new, not to mention it is a life-saver.
